Prayer Ministry

The Prayer for Protection

Written by James Dillet Freeman, poet laureate of the Unity movement and director of Silent Unity, Unity’s worldwide prayer ministry

The light of God surrounds me;
The love of God enfolds me;
The power of God protects me;
The presence of God watches over me.
Wherever I am, God is!

Unity of Columbia Prayer Chaplains

Unity is a ministry founded on the power of prayer. It was through prayer that our co-founders, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, received significant and seemingly miraculous healings. Prayer and meditation are key spiritual practices in Unity and in our ministry at Unity of Columbia.

Simply put, prayer is talking to God, while meditation is listening. When we pray, we align our words with Truth. When we meditate, we get quiet and listen to Spirit’s wisdom and peace found deep within us. Prayer does not change God; it changes us by raising our consciousness.

Affirmative Prayer is based on faith, uplifted consciousness and gratitude. We affirm, in the present tense, the Absolute Spiritual Truth. If you request prayers for health, for example, we will behold and claim your wholeness right now. We will also give thanks in advance, as Jesus taught, for what is already done in Spirit.

Meditation is generally a practice of sitting still and turning our attention inward in the quiet presence of Spirit. Sitting in silence is simple and powerful. This practice fosters inner peace and allows us to gain insight and guidance through communion with Spirit.

Our Labyrinth

Prayer and meditation can also be practiced by walking, among other expressions. Unity of Columbia offers an ancient way to “walk” your prayers—on our labyrinth.

Labyrinths have been used all around the world dating back as early as 2500 BCE. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth pathway is clearly marked and there is only one way to go. The path leads one to the center and back out.
